How to Select the Right Hook Gap

Matt Swainbank of Mustad shows you how to determine what kind of gap you need for your plastics.

Hook gap refers to the distance between the point and the shank of the hook. Matching the gap based on the style of soft plastic you're using will directly impact your hook up ratio.

For thicker baits, opt for a wide gap hook that allows the bulkier bait to move out of the way during the hookset. For thinner baits, a streamlined regular gap hook will do the job and also allow the bait to more easily move through cover.
